Matt Forte: Today’s reason college football is good

Eyeblack Odyssey argues that college football is good. In honor of that thought, I’ll be posting a series of daily blog entries that celebrate the good in the sport. I have no idea how far I’ll take this, but for now, let us all bask in the awesome.

Let us all bask in … Matt Forte

I don’t know that Matt Forte has gotten enough credit for being amazing, especially in this town. It’s understandable on some level, what with Tulane’s recent struggles at trying to win football games (my book might touch on this topic) and the team’s status as second-class citizens in their own city to the neighboring LSU Tigers. But damn, this guy was good.

Of course, he’s still good, making tacklers look silly in the NFL. But he was on a whole different level in college, laying claim to the title of best guy on the field pretty much every game … regardless of opponent. He’s not my favorite collegiate dominator out of the backfield (the list is long and distinguished), but he definitely is one of my favorite Tulane athletes I’ve ever watched, regardless of position.

New stadiums? Fan support? The thing Tulane really needs most of is more players like Matt Forte.
