Oregon’s wacky uniforms: Today’s reason college football is good

Eyeblack Odyssey argues that college football is good. In honor of that thought, I’ll be posting a series of daily blog entries that celebrate the good in the sport. I have no idea how far I’ll take this, but for now, let us all bask in the awesome.

Let us all bask in … Oregon’s wacky uniforms

Oh man, hopefully this sparks some debate (you never know, but people are generally passionate about this particular topic). The Oregon Ducks wear an assortment of bizarre, ridiculous, and sometimes even cool uniforms.

So what’s your take?

I am mostly just insanely jealous of them, because the kids love this stuff, and it gives them a recruiting advantage. To wit, any team that tries to do something similar just comes off as pale imitators: The Ducks (mostly thanks to their connections with Phil Knight) are the kings of this.

As to the actual looks? Well, they’re a mixed bag. I sort of hate the duck feathers on the shoulder pads, especially with the yellow (they look like German postal carriers). This is a pretty sweet look, though. Like I said, they’re a mixed bag.

I guess at the end of the day — overlooking my jealousy — I am glad these uniforms exist. They add color to the sport. Maybe a little too much color, but they’re a fun, quirky part of college football.
