Eyeblack Odyssey argues that college football is good. In honor of that thought, I’ll be posting a series of daily blog entries that celebrate the good in the sport. I have no idea how far I’ll take this, but for now, let us all bask in the awesome.
Let us all bask in … Charting attendance figures
I hesitate to call this a rationale for college football being awesome, since it’s simply a tool that could be applied across multiple sports and leagues. But that having been said, in the same way the NBA Draft generator and NCAA bracket resume’ stack-up are awesome tools for fans to play with, this college football attendance dashboard is a really fun way to waste several minutes/hours/lifetimes, and that is enough for it to make the “good” column for me.
Even better, it justifies something I have long maintained, which is K-State needs to expand its stadium in an aggressive manner. Compare K-State in attendance to the average attendance of every big conference (save the Big East, which barely counts at this point), and you’ll see the Wildcats trailing the pack consistently. But look at the data for its ability to fill to capacity, and K-State outperforms everyone but the Big 10 and SEC. To me, this clearly says K-State:
1.) Has a small stadium.
2.) Fills it better than most teams fill theirs.
Interesting stuff.
