Honey Badger: Today’s reason college football is good

Eyeblack Odyssey argues that college football is good. In honor of that thought, I’ll be posting a series of daily blog entries that celebrate the good in the sport. I have no idea how far I’ll take this, but for now, let us all bask in the awesome.

Let us all bask in … Honey Badger

I have a real love-hate relationship with LSU. This is well established, I think. So when the Tigers deserve criticism, I come down hard. But when they bring the awesome, I tend to overcompensate and relish in it. It is what it is, I suppose.

Today I want to give Tyrann Mathieu his due, because if we’re really being honest with ourselves here, he has an uncanny ability to make big plays. And those big plays are often spectacular. There might be a dozen or so players in all of college football I’d want on my defense as much as him. Mathieu truly is the Honey Badger.

He is good. However, I sincerely hope that Brent Musberger doesn’t call one of his games again. If I were to have had to take a drink every time he said “Honey Badger” in the championship game, I would have been passed out by the end of the first quarter.
